RioMar is an importer of marine organisms and aquarium equipment, born from a childhood dream of Bruno, a marine biologist and founder of RioMar , who has over 20 years of experience in this field, working for major importers in Brazil and representing prominent European brands.
RioMar was established in 2018 by Bruno and Reginaldo, a proficient business manager.
Together, they decided to make it a family business. The primary vision of RioMar was to work exclusively with live animals of extremely high quality, always respecting the health and well-being of the animals, providing our customers with peace of mind and safety during their purchase. However, the lack of high-quality products at a fair cost led RioMar to develop its own brand, AtolSystem. Under this brand, we produce OEM and ODM products and collaborate with renowned brands in the global market.
RioMar exclusively operates in the wholesale sector, serving over 300 stores throughout the vast national territory, whether they are physical stores or e-commerce platforms.

Riomar's Quality
As previously stated, our company places great emphasis on the quality of the animals. We implement a rigorous process involving adaptation, feeding, and water quality control to ensure that the animals arriving at RioMar are among the best-selling to the stores. In our feeding process, we use over 7 brands of fish feed, in addition to live (sterilized) food.
Fish are fed 5 to 7 times a day, and corals and anemones are fed according to their individual biological needs. To maintain water quality, water tests are conducted twice a day, and appropriate measures are taken to address any minor issues before they can affect the health and well-being of the animals. To achieve this level of quality, we rely on partner suppliers who provide us with the highest possible quality.
Regulations for Authorization
to Import Live Organisms in Brazil
To initiate the documentation process required for the importation of live organisms, particularly aquatic organisms in our case, it is necessary to have a quarantine facility registered and approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (MAPA). Obtaining this document requires compliance with various structural and prophylactic procedures to ensure that the animals arriving in Brazil do not carry or spread any diseases not present in our native organisms. In addition to the quarantine authorization, we need the General Fishing Registration, where we provide information about the animals’ origin. We also need to adhere to the list of animals permitted for importation as stipulated by official authorities. After obtaining these documents, we follow a step-by-step process, adhering to the rules and timelines set by the relevant authorities.
Documentation Acquisition Procedure
The exporting company issues a proforma and, when necessary, a CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) certificate. Upon receipt of these documents, we initiate the import license process. The import license includes a list indicating the maximum quantities allowed for the import of each species in that shipment. Following the import license approval, we adhere to Brazilian regulations to create the following mandatory documents:
Documents:
– Health Certificate
– Custom Invoice
– HAWB (House Air Waybill)
– MAWB (Master Air Waybill)
– Packing List
– Labels indicating the contents of the Packing List in each box
– Photos of HAWB, MAWB, and Packing labels
All these documents undergo a thorough review and approval by our team before printing and signing. After inspection and approval by our team, these documents are printed, stamped, and signed in blue ink, and then placed in Box number 1, as per Brazilian customs regulations.
Airport clearance process
At the airport, upon the animals’ arrival, the airline releases them to the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service, the entity responsible for verifying compliance with fiscal matters before allowing inspections by other agencies. The Ministry of Agriculture conducts an inspection, validating the Packing List and cross-referencing it with the box labels. Subsequently, they verify the health certificate issued at the origin by the exporter and the competent authority of the country, ensuring its compliance with the Commercial Invoice. If there are no discrepancies, the boxes are opened to confirm that the content matches the description on the packaging and to assess the health of the animals. If any sick animals are identified, the shipment is withheld. Following this, the environmental agency, IBAMA, conducts an inspection, confirming the species and their compliance with the import license and other documents, including CITES for corals and NOCITES for soft corals, anemones, and other invertebrates.
